The price of Foam is determined by weight, Density = weight per m3. As prices of raw materials increased, manufacturers of Polyurethane Foam have found a way to reduce costs by adding a filler to manipulate the weight, thus cutting the quality, but still maintaining the weight per m3.
Some manufacturers add up to 35% filler to be competitive.
The only way to test the quality is to use a burn test in a special kiln (oven).
A piece of foam will be weighed and burnt, whatever is left in the kiln thereafter is the filler which is weighed again, and then the percentage of filler is calculated.
That is why mattresses lasted longer in previous years, as people were not yet aware of how to cheat.
